History

Since its opening on March 5, 1951, Laird Memorial Hospital has been an integral part of the fabric of Kilgore and east Texas life. The concept for the city-owned and operated hospital originated with then Kilgore Mayor Roy H. Laird. Through his efforts and leadership, the dream became a reality.

Laird Memorial Hospital continually moved forward with medical technology and skill. The 60's and 70's saw many improvements and the first expansion of the hospital in 1979 with the addition of the Annie B. Laird wing housing the medical/surgical unit and surgical suites.

In 1993, the Harold G. Habenicht Women's Center was built to enhance women's healthcare services. A new 30,000 square foot Emergency Care Center and Radiology facility opened in 2000 providing state-of-the-art technology.

It was March 2003 when Laird Memorial Hospital received its own non-profit status. At this time, Laird Memorial Hospital became affiliated with Trinity Mother Frances Health System in Tyler.

In September 2003, the Laird Memorial Hospital Behavioral Health Center opened providing a geriatric psychiatric inpatient care program for senior adults age 55 and older.

The hospital continues steady growth each year in serving the healthcare needs of our patients.

CEO

In the spirit of Roy H. and Annie B. Laird, Laird Memorial Hospital continues to grow and serve the people of Kilgore and surrounding communities in even greater ways through the expansion, scope and availability of local health care services. Laird Memorial Hospital opened in 1951 through the combined efforts of private and public interests, including personal contributions by Mr. and Mrs. Laird and others in the community, through bonds issued by the City of Kilgore and a federal grant.

Today, that partnership has grown to include Trinity Mother Frances Health System. Through our affiliation with Trinity Mother Frances and our own medical staff of 50 physicians, Laird Memorial Hospital continues to provide the highest quality health care services and modern technology to our patients– right here at home.

Most importantly, Laird is your community hospital. Our highly-skilled employees are your neighbors. We pledge to provide you with the same friendly, compassionate and competent care that we would want for our own families. Whether you need emergency, acute, diagnostic or mental health services, we are here to provide you with dependable, quality care, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. At Laird Memorial Hospital, we are neighbors helping neighbors.

Sincerely,
Bob Ellzey, FACHE
President and Chief Executive Officer
